That dark, streaky look you see on a lot of tile roofs around here? That's black algae - and it spreads. It feeds on the limestone filler in barrel tiles, and left alone, it just keeps working its way across the surface. It's not something you can rinse off with a garden hose.

The right approach for barrel tile is soft washing. That means low pressure with the right cleaning solution - not a high-powered stream that can crack tiles or force water up under them. We run the solution across the surface, let it do the work, and rinse it clean. No shortcuts, no damage.

What we ended up with here is a roof that looks the way it's supposed to. The tile color comes back. The ridge caps clean up. The whole surface looks uniform again instead of patchy and dark. It's a big difference, and it shows up clearly from the street - or in this case, from the water.

Siesta Key properties deal with this constantly. The humidity, the heat, the salt air - it's basically a perfect environment for algae to thrive. Staying on top of roof washing is one of the better ways to protect what's underneath and keep the exterior looking sharp. One soft wash done right goes a long way.
